Gryspeerdt takes over where Leroy left off

With Manu Leroy hanging up the pads over the summer at the end of the season, there needed to be a suitably competent goalkeeper to come in and fill his shoes so to speak. And with other talent in the Belgian domestic league already locked up with teams (like Henet and Gucassoff), or moving abroad (like Vanasch to Oranje Zwart!), there weren't too many options. KHC Dragons have therefore done a great job in securing the services of up and coming youngster Gryspeedt.

Coming off the back of a good development run and joining before Leroy's statement of intent was made official, his mentorship can easily be seen in his padawan's aggressive coming forward off his line and unafraid to get high in the D to challenge or more clearly communicate with the defenders in front of him like a co-ordinated team unit. This is something that has easily shone out when he was swapped in for an EHL shootout where an aggressive approach and appropriate attitude tomatch became a key tool in his arsenal to come up trumps in the shuttles rounds.

Only time will tell, but for now the future looks bright for the Dragons and Belgium's next generation of goalkeepers. It is all part of the learning curve for a youngster thrown into the deep end with a baptism of fire, especially with regards to self belief and psychology, but with his coaches sticking, should blossom soon enough.

The former Belgian U21's follows a similar career development pattern as Vincent Vanasch who also started  after his U21 years (Gucasoff also being part of that group and another graduate of the strong Belgian system which is becoming to that of the German footballing system that brings through its juniors to seniors, equipping them properly as they do).
