EG carrying four 'keepers on their 'books'

An interesting and random fact for the season is that East Grinstead have the most goalkeepers registered in the EHL. Most of this is probably poor journalism (need to work on getting my facts right!) but it remains a quirky stat as every other team generally has an incumbent first choice and reserve goalkeeper just in case who obviously trains with the squad but doesn't necessarily travel with the team. I think the total you can have is four because I remember being aware of when Surbiton had Chris Bristow come in, with Allan Dick already at the club, and then choices being made about Tommy Alexander and Andrew Miller (who went to HWHC to get playing time and been the reserve) about four seasons ago. Enough digressing though!

Beeston has Dan Darby, Ashley Watson and of course starter George Pinner. Surbiton now have three goalkeepers registered after Alexander's departure, for emergency purposes. Exeter also have three as the young goalkeepers battle it out for squad rankings; Rea, Miller and the signing from University of Birmingham (even though hockey is a smaller sport to cover, I still struggle with remembering ever goalkeeper's name!). But EG have four.

Youngster Jack Egerton benches, but Mark Potton, starter Richard's brother is also registered, as is Colthram. Paul has been around EG for quite some time; I think he was at Reading for a bit (probably wrong as always!) and could have joined Oxted four seasons ago (I remember as I was around the club at that time) but chose not to and returned to be around as third choice for when Potton and Kettle were sharing starts etc. Giles Deakin, who was arguably the main reserve (playing for EG in the indoor competitions), left to play for Sevenoaks in the Southern Regional Premier League as they look to bounce back to the national league after relegation not so long ago.
