Walker providing competition at Surbiton Women's

Not knowing much about the women's leagues (which is a shame and feels a little sexist!) it's hard to really blog about the goalkeepers in their leagues. But one thing that has stood out is the move by Abi Walker to join newly promoted Surbiton in the premier league. The Scottish international (and GB reserve I think; playing in international friendlies in the build up to the Olympics nonentheless) moved to the Surrey based side in October last year from Canterbury. Which seems a little strange as Canterbury are currently sitting top of the table, but at the least it strengthens the squad, adding depth in the most crucial of departments.

Isabella Williamson (23) is as far as I know a product of Surbiton juniors and did well to guide Surbiton to premier league promotion over the summer. And with Walker nearing her peak it seems strange to leave Canterbury who are currently top to play for a team further down the league table. Williamson has been doing well and getting game experience is incredibly crucial to any goalkeeper's development (it's the only way you learn!) so hopefully she will still get the chance to start and battle for the number one jersey.
