Burns making competition for Pinnegar

Another young goalkeeper being given the chance in the English top flight, is Will Burns. And his playing time is also making competition for Tom Pinnegar who was given the starting job at the beginning of the season for Cannock, after returning to the club where he was previously stuck in a goalkeeper logjam at the start of his uni days.

With Forrester's surprise move to play in France this season just finished (a surprise to me at least, with him making a strong case for being a Premier league starter after a strong season with Old Loughtonians who don't seem the same without him), other goalkeepers are being given the chance within Cannock's goalkeeping depth, and that includes Will Burns. Rotating between goalkeepers may not be great for the defenders or the goalkeepers as they iron out preferred structures and communication styles, but looking for points and playing the 'hot hand' (in goalie terms, letting the goalkeeper doing well on a 'hot streak' start ahead of alternatives) has seen him get playing experience and stake his own claim in a battle between two youngsters.

Will adds to the young pedigree in the highest division, which seems to parallel with the trend in a lot of young goalkeepers being given the chance to be starting goalkeepers in Spain and Belgium as well as Holland. His composure belies his age and he has looked comfortable, with strong technique and positive mental attitude, giving his team a fighting chance in the games he has played for them.
