The King is dead, long live the King! I couldn't think of anything suitably relevant, but for now, Mason's tenure at Guildford has come to an end. Hence the intro that's probably more awkward to read than intended.
After a long service for the Surrey side that saw some great goalkeeping performances, England's well known former international goalkeeper is off to fresh opportunities with Middlesex side Indian Gymkhana, joining with the coach that brought him back to the English national league to begin with, Ian Jennings. It was a bit of a give away that he was going to be involved with the team, taking on more of a coaching/managerial role as he looks to eventually transition from his playing, with his contact details added to Gymkhana's side with his new title position at the club - Director of Strategy & Communications.
His departure will herald a new dawn both for Guildford and Indian Gymkhana; Guildford as they look for a suitable long term replacement of which his shoes will be probably be as big as they are in real life to fill (Mason notably being 6'6 although as usual that's probably the wrong info!). And equally so for Indian Gym as he offers them bucketloads of experience and a veteran head for things as they look to mesh styles, overcome difficulties and push for elusive promotion.
Definitely an exciting time for the 'greybeard' Mason and it will be interesting to see how Guildford cope in his absence.
