2014/15 Now Pensions league goalkeepers: Southgate relying on Allan

Southgate are another side reinforcing their goalkeeping depth, but this time out of the retirement of Chris Hibbert after a long time of servitude dominating that spot on the team sheet, rather than from their goalkeeper leaving. In comes Allan who joins after Pinner moved all the way down to Holcombe. Allan makes it a trio of Scottish goalkeepers in the Prem (four including Tommy, although not sure if he'll be starting at the Ding), which for me speaks volumes about the development of Scottish goalkeepers and their approach to developing goalkeeping team; Allan and Forrester having spent time with Scottish national league sides before the move to the English league system.

New signing and recent international retiree Allan looks to make his mark at Southgate.

Goalkeepers:

  • Allan Dick (recently retired from Scottish international involvement)
  • Chris Baker - had his first taste of the Premier league deputising for an injured Tom Millington last season at Wimbledon

Incoming - Allan Dick (Holcombe) and Chris Baker (Wimbledon)
Outgoing (sort of!) - Chris Hibbert hangs up the pads after years of service with his side

Predicted starter:

Not really predicted as much as a certainty, but for the sake of continuing the template rundown description, Allan is straight in for games this season. He will provide a wealth of experience and goalie nouse (being a qualified coach); happy to communicate (effectively!) loud and proud with his back four and orchestrate the team's defence. Going forward, Southgate can be sure to compete in their season back in the Prem (which they seem to yo-yo between in recent years!).

Predicted season outcome:

Having brought in some solid signings like Darren Cheesman to bag goals for them, I do expect the 'Gate to have a strong season this season. All of the signings combined with the team ethic and hard work will be sure to pay dividends as they look to more than just survive and push up the table.
