Brendon Botes was the second choice around the time Hibbert retired and Rassie Pieterse took over. Botes featured in some Champions Trophy and qualification games, and often used a set-up with a TK rhp but switched over to the tube design of the Obo hi control.
But le Roux was taken as the emergency reserve for the London Olympics. Which makes things a little confusing as he was included in the squad before Christmas for the South African international squad in the World Hockey League.
This is him down the bottom of the rows of photos, wearing TK red pads, gloves and helmet. This is a different set-up presumably than previous, because he is using TK elbow pads and not wearing the bicep protection from the arm pads (he'd removed the lower arms like some goalkeepers do, for a set-up that's a lot like Hibbert's modified Obo body armour):
And this is where it gets a little more confusing because Gowen Jones has been taken as the second choice for the World Hockey League. No idea who is the actual second choice right now! Both are young though so competition can only be good as they develop and eventually look to take over from Pieterse (down the line!).
