Another weekend, and another load of games in the EHL! And with some important results, it looks like it'll be down to the wire and an exiciting finish at bothe ends of the tables, with competition tight between Wimbledon and Holcombe for top spot (only a goal separates them in goal difference!!), the West, which is extremely close and Bowdon pushing in the North. Ben Cowling has started his second game in a row for Canterbury after Stubbing's string of streaky performances (although I'd consider letting him work things through and get back on track), whilst Pinner got his first clean sheet of the season, finally!
Prem
David Kettle is definitely proving his mettle and showcasing his definitive talents, helping Surbiton to a crucial win over Reading that takes them second thanks to other results. Which is useful for the rankings for the Euro Hockey League playoffs (a strange format; I'd prefer they just go on table positions to start with!). Surbiton had a three goal lead, with Kettle going up against deadly forwards like Darren Cheesman.
Brooklands came out on top in a close battle against Loughborough. This is obviously very important as they battle for survival and try to prevent relegation. Ian Scanlon (I presume!) helped HWHC to a surprising win over Cannock away. And EG managed to put three past Cowling to bag another win.
East
Indian Gym surprisingly lost against Richmond, which is a crucial result for them as they manage to climb off the bottom and hope to retain their national league status. Oxted again lost surprisingly against Peterborough away. Holcombe managed to put six past 'Chappers' in a high scoring affair to keep pushing Wimbledon , whilst Wimbledon themselves got the points by a goal difference against Old Louts. Cambridge and Brom & Beck drew, with 5 goals apiece, eek!
West
Cardiff go top after a win against struggling Cheltenham. Exeter are a point behind after beating another struggling side, Whitchurch. Andrew Isaacs added to his clean sheet tally, with his side smashing 8 past Firebrands unanswered. Guildford drew 1-1 with Bath (as blogged about!) and Fareham surprisingly lost by 5 goals at home against the University of Birmingham.
North
Bowdon didn't take as many points as they'd like in a surprising drew against the University of Durham (Durham having won against Wakefield just a day before on Saturday). There were two 1 all draws between Leek and Olton, and Belper and Doncaster. Whilst Wakefield drew 2 all with Khalsa. Sheffield's game was obviously postponed, so we'll have to wait to find out the actual result!!
