2014/15 Now Pensions East league goalkeepers: Pinner hoping for an easy promotion

After various outfield signings during an influx of England stars from the GB squad failed to win the league for Holcombe, the Kent side and their investors are hoping that they can make it lucky a third time round. And they have also decided to make the change in goal, managing to persuade George Pinner to 'up sticks' as it were and leave behind European hockey and his long term club Beeston for the sunny sights of the Eastern conference. George has impressed on the big stage recently with impressive displays against Belgium and other tough squads, and yet Holcombe have no trouble scoring goals, so the switch does seem off kilter from an outsider's perspective.

Goalkeepers:

  • George Pinner

Outgoing: Allan Dick to Southgate
Incoming: Pinner

Starter:

Again, no prediction necessary, as  (I don't think he would move to Holcombe just to sit on the bench, even if they were to pay him the same amount - although GB duties and central system training camps will obviously eat into his playing time!). Pinner is not expected to carry out the role similar to Shiton when he was at Nottingham Forest [trying to go for a goalkeeping analogy here, so stick with me...] and stop everything flung at him to carry off unexpected wins, and playing behind a defence where he could nod off with distractions can't be a good thing for his international prep. But who knows, and it will be of note to see how it unfolds and how well he can replicate Maddy Hinch's similar transition in taking Holcombe women's to the Prem in a season...

Expected season finish:

I do expect Holcombe to win the league and for Pinner to make a return to the Premier league by next September, but then again luck hasn't been on their side and a second place finish wouldn't be unthinkable.
