In an interesting and mostly unexpected move (to me at least!), Canadian international goalkeeper Kevin Pereira has signed with Nat Prem side Reading. Obviously the Berkshire side were going to need some help in the form of goalkeeping reinforcements with English second choice James Bailey departing for Wimbledon (as confirmed in the transfer section of the England hockey website), and have managed to bring back Reading academy product (football analogy) Tommy Alexander, as well as Pereira. This will be a great opportunity for Kevin to cut his teeth on high level competitive hockey as he himself pushes for further international opportunities having won his full first cap with the senior side this year. Just as Kindler signed with , and says a lot about English hockey drawing interest from high quality players across the globe.
Having gone to Australia to gain more experience, it was there that he bumped into Reading's new coach
Kevin was in action in last weekend's Five Feathers cup hosted by East Grinstead. Unfortunately didn't get along in the end, but now regretting the chance to see how well he performed in action. The action photos were a dead giveaway that he had joined before I'd see the news myself.
