When considering what jersey to wear over your chest pad/body armour set-up, an interesting option to consider is using a football long sleeved top. Or a soccer jersey for those of who you come from a nation where the term refers more to well established gidiron than anything else! Interestingly Guus Vogels notably used to have jerseys like this done for him in his international playing days for Holland. Obviously elbow padding was added into goalkeeper jerseys when they themselves evolved their goalkeeping gear to look after elbows and arms when diving around. Right now, Phil Carr (Oxted first choice goalkeeper and Scotland international in the mix) is a goalkeeper wearing them; kind of a standout feature (from other members of the GK Union anyway!).
If you prefer to play with no arm padding, then a jersey like this helps look after your elbows and protect the skin from Astro burns when you slide in. As often happens without anything over the skin, as the playing photo of Ashley Waston shows (if you look closely at his elbows!) in one of the previous posts.
Here is Carr in a footie goalkeeping top just to demonstrate:
If you look real close, you should just about be able to see the cotton padding of the soccer jersey at Phil's elbow:
