In the Men's World League Round 2, Chris Rea is starting for the US men's team. Getting his first international caps at full, senior level, it looks like Sheridan hasn't been included in the squad. Which is a surprise and a little confusing as he's listed on the website's team sheet for the men's squad. It could be Brandon Karess from the development squad, but don't recognise him and can't work out the mystery! If this is the way it is now, then Rea looks to have inserted himself as the long term starter for America, which as he is still young and playing at national league level in England, can only be beneficial for Team USA. Rea picked up a clean sheet against Brazil and impressed against Trinidad, enough for head coach Chris Clements to be quoted as (direct from the match report source!
http://www.teamusa.org/USA-Field-Hockey/Features/2013/March/03/US-Men-fall-short-against-Trinidad-and-Tobago-in-penalty-shootout.aspx):
“Chris had an unbelievable match, to have a player in
goal be that resilient is fantastic and a real strength for our team
knowing a goalkeeper like that is behind them.”
Rea and the reserve 'keeper for USA can be seen here:
Aside from anything goalkeeping, he was also sporting a new hair cut...!
