Allan Dick's resurgence

Allan Dick, since his departure from Surbiton, seems to be making inroads after a less than successful attempt to pry the starting shirt off Chris Bristow in his time there. The Scottish international has been playing well for Holcombe, a key reason for their position in the Eastern conference table at this time of the season, making notable saves at short corners to keep the scores tight.

Allan Dick, since leaving Kelburne in the Scottish national league and going south in search of glory at Surbiton, has been working away to refind the form he once dreamed of. Unable to steal the starting jersey once Chris Bristow arrived following Havant's relegation, he found himself benching and lacked game time. Since then he joined Holcombe, with Richard Harms seemingly not up to the task of the club's ambition of making it into the premier league.

In spite of his difficulties, the Scottish international has been making a notable comeback, performing well, notably at short corners, to help his team retain a position high in the Eastern conference table. A goalkeeper can earn his team points but I think Holcombe are in need of adding extra depth if they wish to push on to their dreams of promotion. His opportunity to land a starting spot means he has been able to challenge James Cachia of Sheffield for his nation's starting spot. With the retirement of Ali McGregor I see this battle continuing, with youngsters Phil Carr of Oxted and Tommy Alexander of Surbiton (both former Scotland U21s players and starters in the GBSL - GB Super League) also wanting to stake their club in the international squad.

It will be interesting to see if Dick shows the signs of talent he did before, although it is only early days this season. Dick is 30 (edit: actually 29, sorry Allan!), hitting the peak of his goalkeeping years and obviously won't be pushing for GB contention but can still push on to fight for national pride and push Holcombe on in their efforts to climb the EHL ladder.
