Olympic watch: days 1/2

Men’s
Considering the score line when South Africa played Australia in the last Olympics and were demolished, Rassie Pieterse put in a strong performance, often coming off his line quickly to shut down attacks and made sure the Ozzies (who are likely to challenge for gold) didn’t score as many as they could have. Stockmann looked a little shaky but was able to secure the win, whilst Chetri didn’t look too great being beaten at his near post. Although GB were dominant, Vivaldi also played well, although could have done better against Fox, and Fair had little to do but couldn’t stop the drag flick he faced.

Women’s
Yvonne Frank did well to maintain her clean sheet against the USA, challenging aggressively when needed, as did Beth Storry. From what I saw of Amy Tran, she made key stops at times.
