Another late news piece (sort of!); it was made known on Wednesday, so a little late, was England first choice George Pinner showing off his Monarch kit, but with all Monarch foam versus the set-up he's been using (i.e. Mercian rhp, so not totally Monarch!).
Monarch were said to have been working on an rhp redesign and it looks like this is it. It sort of looks like a cross between the larger faced blocking rhp's and the slimmer ones better for ground work. Given its shape, it looks a lot like the "home made" rhp that Adrian D'Souza made out of a TK lhp; it was basically thus a square rhp with the stick hold straight, down the middle of the glove! Making a basically carbon copy of an lhp on the right hand, mirroring the shape, but I'm not sure how useful it was for stick work! D'Souza's mod definitely existed, but I'll need to try and dig out photos!
Anyway, the design is very interesting and without being able to try it in person, have no idea on its uses/abilities. Either way, it's an interesting take on things. Large blocking surface, but still a straight held stick (versus glove working out at a diagonal angle or stick held so, like the TK rhp/Obo hi rebound glove). And as a result, Pinner should (if he uses it in games, not sure how quickly he'll adjust to a new piece of kit, technique wise, if he uses it this weekend for the Euro playoffs!) be switching back to the tube style rhp he used when in Obo (hi control rhp). When in Mercian he was obviously using their new 'cross-continental' style rhp.
Will be interesting to see how the new rhp works and if Pinner vontinues to use it in national league and international action, and if so, how he gets on with it...!
