Mason using a new Mercian glove?!

Shhhush don't tell anyone (like seriously please don't, it's like between you and me, right?!)...

I'm not sure if the top bods would ever read this little blog and don't want to step on anyone's toes, but to a goalie nerd (we realise the little, often tedious things that no-one else spots!), it looks like Guildford's Simon Mason is wearing a new style left hand glove/lhp. He was wearing a Slazeneger lhp of all things this season; there were photos on Hockey Images, in a match against the University of Exeter, but I can't find the links to prove it. As you can see for yourself, it's not exactly looking like something Mercian produce. It's got a much slimmer profile than the Mercian and looks a lot more square (more akin to the Monarch lightning gloves they were  producing, no longer around now I think!) the Slazenger glove is far more curved and this isn't (http://www.hockeyfactoryshop.co.uk/acatalog/SlazengerGoilieGlove.html). And all Mercian ultimate range lhp's don't have the 'M' design and are just pure blue.

So either, he's been chopping up gloves and Frankenstein style sticking them together, to make the Slazenger glove look like it's Mercian or it's an entirely new glove! Sponsorship to the max, but that's confusing because Brothers used a total mix of kit (TK shorts and chest pad) and clearly a TK rhp before the Mercian one was introduced, so why go to so much effort and bother?! And would be wary of it falling apart during a save, although Adrian D'Souza made a totally bizarre square rhp out of a TK lhp a couple of years back. If it looks more like the latter, given the red 'M' resplendent on Mercian's new rhp design, then time will tell I guess, but if he's testing (like Pontifex at the Olympics for Obo), just goes to show that Mercian do test their kit at the elite levels and who better to test it than Mason who works for them!
