Canterbury vs Reading analysis

With Galvanised Media having released footage of the Canterbury-Reading game on Youtube, it was possible to get a look at how well Bailey and Stubbings performed in the game. I was very impressed with Stubbings who combines elite reaction speeds and athleticism with a very composed style of gaming, playing above his years in his approach to the chance of nerves getting in the way of competing in the most elite domestic league in England. Whilst both are good and able to compete to this level, I still believe Stubbings has the edge right now.

Both play a more modern style of reflex and athleticism, making superb diving saves against corners. The following are thoughts based off analysis:

Bailey
  • Could have challenged against the first goal, giving too much space away against the reverse shot
  • Unfortunate on the one on one but possibly could have tried to tackle to take the ball away
  • Good diving stop against a corner and great reflex save against a redirection away to his right

Stubbings
  • Great footwork to get across to save with his rhp
  • Seemed able to overcome the goals allowed to refocus and regain composure in order to backstop his team to the win
  • Very athletic, making a superb diving stop and high diving across to his right post against a dangerous tomahawk
  • Seems to have changed his short corner approach; very relaxed style, dropping gloves low but made it easier to stop low against Rich Mantell
  • Deep in his D against corners, making use of his reaction speed
  • Seems to be extremely level headed and composed for his age, helping to play well in spite of his lack of experience as a youngster
